LIMA’17 to showcase 61 ships, 103 aircrafts in aerial and static displays

KUALA LUMPUR – The presence of 61 ships from all over the world in a single event at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA ’17) proves that participating countries are aware of the importance of defence, security and the commercial segments in strengthening the relationships between countries, region and globally.

Fourteen ships sailed from countries like Italy, Japan, India, Pakistan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand,  Sri Lanka, United States of America (USA), Vietnam, India and Philippines while the rest are from Malaysia. They come to join the Malaysian government’s effort in developing the maritime and aerospace industries in the Asia Pacific region.

The Malaysian ships are represented by the Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Marine Department, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and other private companies.

 LIMA is a biennial event that gathers the world’s leading maritime and aerospace companies in a week of high impact business and networking activities with special aerobatic and ship displays.

Another highlight of LIMA’17 which visitors cannot afford to miss is the aerial display with the participation of 26 aircrafts from abroad namely Indonesia (8), Korea (9), Russia (5) Thailand (1) France (1) and USA (2).

Sixty aircrafts will be participating in the aerial display. From the total, 26 are from other countries while 34 from Malaysia. The Royal Malaysian Air Force, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Royal Malaysian Police will represent the country in a series of dramatic air shows.

In the static display, USA outnumbered other foreign countries with eight aircrafts followed by Singapore (2), Australia (2) Thailand (1) and Russia (1). About 43 aircrafts will participate in the 14th edition of LIMA.

 Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Fire and Rescue Department, Air Unit, Department of Civil Aviation and the ‘Pasukan Udara Tentera Darat’ will represent Malaysia in the prestigious exhibition.

The programme for 21 March (trade day), the Opening Flypast will take place at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) at 8.00am – 8.30am; Aerial Display at MIEC (12noon – 2.30pm); Maritime VIP Demonstration at Maritime Segment (3.30pm – 6.00pm).

For 22-23 March (trade day), Ships Display Open to Public at Maritime Segment (8am – 6.30pm); Boat Demonstration at Maritime Segment (10am – 12 noon); Aerial Display at MIEC for trade visitors only (12.30pm – 2.30pm).

 For 24-25 March – Ships Display Open to Public at Maritime Segment (8am – 6.30pm); Aircraft Display Open to Public at MIEC (9am – 5pm); Boat Demonstration at Maritime Segment (10am -12noon); Aerial Display (session one) at MIEC (10am – 12noon); Aerial Display (session 2) at MIEC (2.30pm – 4.30pm); Maritime Demonstration at Maritime Segment (4.30pm-5.30pm).
