
LANGKAWI – The 14th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’17) started smoothly today with a great excitement and interesting shows.
At the event, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) roared Langkawi sky with a gambit flypast, using two SU-30 MKM Sukhoi, three F/A-18D Hornet, five Hawk 108/208, three Airbus A400M, seven Pilatus PC 7 MKII, and three helicopter EC725.
Other than that, the Republic of Korea Air Force’s 53rd Air Demonstration knows as the Black Eagles also roar the skies using their KAI T-50B Golden Eagle supersonic.
Meanwhile, the Russian Knights aerobatic team also showcasing their Sukhoi SU-30SM aircraft for the first time outside Russia.
In the afternoon, Najib Tun Razak visited Resort World Langkawi where the maritime segment was held with the attendance of major exhibitors such as THALES, MAST, ACS, and SAAB showcasing their latest defence products.
Other than that, a live action demonstration from the Royal Malaysian Navy Special Forces, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Marine Department of Malaysia with the setting being a hostage rescue mission at sea.
After that, Najib visited the KM Pekan, the new Offshore Patrol Vessel type Craft (OPV), one of the two offshore patrol vessels awarded by the Japanese government.
The grant also reflects the strong bilateral relationship and the commitment of the Japanese government to ensure peace, security, and prosperity of the nation. The 92-meter KM Pekan capable of performing operations and patrols at sea for 30 days without re-supply, especially in the South China Sea and the East Coast of Sabah.
KM Pekan will be park at the eastern province of Maritime Malaysia in Kuantan, Pahang.
The event was officially launched yesterday by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, with the attendance of Deputy Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Menteri Besar of Kedah, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah; Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, and Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, and many Defence Ministers from other participating countries.
