King of Bahrain, Hamad Isa conferred Maroon Beret from Malaysian Armed Forces

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 – King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Majesty King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa was conferred the Maroon Beret and Honorary Wing by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) as a symbol of loyalty and pride of the 10 Brigade Para in a special military ceremony held at the Dataran Panglima Tentera Darat here today.

The conferment was bestowed upon His Majesty King Hamad by Chief of Defence Force Malaysian Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor with the presence of Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Meanwhile, Chief of Army, General Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim said, the conferment is only bestowed upon leaders and head of countries including top state leaders.

Zulkiple said, up to date 62 leaders of the world have been conferred with Maroon Beret and Honorary Wing from ATM.

“We are proud that His Majesty King of Bahrain is prepared to be conferred the Maroon Beret as a symbol of loyalty and the pride of the 10 Brigade Para,” he told reporters after the event today.

He added: “The military demonstrations today were performed by one of the units in Brigade Para.  Such event normally would take place in Terendak Camp, Malacca but due to the shortage of time, it was held in Kuala Lumpur today.”

The Chief of Army added, in today’s event about 5,000 staff were involved including those in the marching parade to welcome His Majesty, King Hamad.

The military demonstrations he said, were performed by various units in 10 Brigade Para that symbolized the strong bond that existed amongst soldiers.

Regarding the military assets used in the demonstrations, Zulkiple said, auxiliary weapons had been used while the explosions were used as simulations. Assets from the air force unit of the Malaysian Army including Nuri helicopters and Agusta A109 had been used in the one-hour demonstration.

Zulkiple also mentioned that His Majesty King Hamad was very impressed with the high spirits shown by participants in the demonstrations.
