22 AUGUST 2016, KUALA LUMPUR– Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports addressed the youths to take full care of the environment, at the 26th PPSEAWA International Conference 2016  which was hosted by The Pan-Pacific and South-East Asia Women’s Association of Malaysia (PPSEAWA) with the theme “Respect the Environment for a Sustainable and Peaceful Future”.

“We should not adopt the attitude of ‘protecting the environment is the responsibility of the government and the environmentalists’ only. In contrast, all individuals should do their part to reduce waste disposal by carrying out recycling activities. We want to empower youth and make these youths to become agents of change to sustain the environment and create awareness among the whole human population”, said Khairy.

The 26th PPSEAWA International Conference 2016 aimed to receive pledges among youths on their commitment to become change agent who will advocate efforts, preserve and protect for sustainable environment.

“We believe that the young generation is capable of creating a tremendous impact. Those 300 youths present today will be the catalyst in sparking alertness on the current environmental issue we are facing today, which will translate to effective action towards having Zero Waste. They start talking and posting on social media and their peers will eventually join in,” said Dato’ Rahmah Abdul Hamid, President of PPSEAWA Malaysia.

The conference topics focused on Industrial Waste, Waste is Money, e-Waste, Food Waste, Urban Development and Waste Management, Zero Waste Lifestyle, How Much Waste Do We Make Daily? and Community Driven Zero-Waste Effort.
