Johor BN will not form coalition government with other political party after the election – Onn Hafiz

JOHOR BARU: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) stressed that it will not form a coalition government with any other political party after the Johor election and insist that the decision is final and non-negotiable.

Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the coalition’s stance would remain unchanged regardless of the election outcome, reiterating that BN intends to govern on its own if given the mandate.

“Johor BN will not form a coalition government with any other political party in this state,” he said during the BN candidate announcement ceremony at the Johor Umno Liaison Office here, Wednesday as reported by NST.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the caretaker Johor menteri besar, said BN would continue implementing its development agenda under the Maju Johor 2030 framework, describing it as a long-term commitment to the state.

He reminded candidates that their nomination was not a privilege but a responsibility entrusted to them by the party and the people adding that all BN candidates should campaign with discipline, decorum and wisdom, in line with what he described as the “Johor way” of politics.

Meanwhile for those not selected, Onn Hafiz called on them to remain loyal and continue supporting the party’s struggle.

“Our struggle is bigger than any individual or position. The one contesting may be a candidate, but the one that must win is all of us, the entire Barisan Nasional team,” he said.

According to Onn Hafiz, BN is offering voters a stable, principled and structured government capable of sustaining Johor’s development trajectory.

He also urged voters to assess BN candidates based on their performance, track record and future plans.

Addressing criticism and political attacks, he said BN remained a coalition representing Malays, Chinese, Indians and other communities.

He stressed that BN’s refusal to cooperate with certain parties was based on differences in ideology rather than race or trust.

Onn Hafiz also thanked party members for their cooperation in finalising the candidate list, noting that the selections had been reviewed and endorsed by BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Johor election will be held on July 11, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
