Jeniri: Abang Jo is a man with high integrity and free from scandals

Kuala Lumpur 13 Jan. – Deputy President of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg has sworn in today as the sixth Sarawak Chief Minister, following the death of Tan Sri Adenan Satem due to heart failure on Wednesday afternoon.

On the appointment of Abang Johari as the new Chief Minister of Sarawak, the political analyst and Associate Prof. Dr. Jeniri Amir said, Abang Johari has the political wisdom and maturity to chart a new chapter for Sarawak and push the political benchmark higher.

“Abang Johari is a visionary, capable and a very experienced leader,” Prof. Dr. Jeniri added.

He is a no-nonsense man with high integrity and free from scandals, and as such he should be able to continue the unfinished business with the sudden death of Adenan,”  Jeniri said when contacted by MWN today.

Abang Johari, 66, the state assemblyman of Satok since 1981, took his oath of office before Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud at the Astana Negeri in Petra Jaya, Kuching at 4.05pm today.

Abang Johari is the youngest son of Sarawak’s first Governor Tun Abang Openg Abang Sapiee.

In the last state election, Abang Johari put aside Mohamed Salleh Shawkatali of PKR by a majority of 5,045 votes when he polled 6,854 votes against 1,809 by his rival.

After defeating Adenan during the party convention in 1989, Abang Johari was elected as the second Deputy President of PBB. Since then, he has been returned unopposed to the post.

By convention, Abang Johari now becomes the president of the party.

 Born in Limbang Division, he received his primary education at Merpati Jepang Primary School, Kuching and his secondary level at St Joseph Secondary School. He obtained his masters in business administration from Henley College, Brunel University, United Kingdom.

Graduate with a Master of Mass Communication. 10 years working experience in the media and broadcasting.
