Italy: The coronavirus death toll in Italy has risen to 1,809 from 1,441, after 400 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, officials have said this morning.
The total number of infections in the country has also jumped up to more than 24,747.
Following growing concern over coronavirus outbreak, the Italian government has imposed a “lockdown” and strict restrictions. All private and public gatherings and events are banned, universities and schools are closed until further notice.
Lombardy, the heavily populated area around the financial capital Milan, has been Italy‘s worst-affected region, with 966 deaths and 11,685 confirmed cases, more than half the national total, according to CNN.
