It is up to Dr. Mahathir to decide who will be the next education minister, says Wan Azizah

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has the prerogative to appoint a new education minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said, she will let
the Prime Minister to decide who will replace Dr Maszlee Malik as the next education minister.
Dr. Wan Azizah said she had no knowledge as who will replace Maszlee, a former International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer who resigned on January 2 as the first minister of education appointed under Pakatan Harapan government.
“It is up to Dr. Mahathir to decide who will be the next education minister,” she
said responding to the media’ question when she visited the Welfare Department in Membakut , Sabah on Jan.4.
Meanwhile, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) in its statement said there was a suggestion that the appointment of a new education minister should be discussed in Pakatan Harapan meeting.
Chief Information of BERSATU, Dr. Radzi Jidin in the statement said, it is the
prerogative or the discretion of the Prime Minister to advise Yang di_Pertuan Agong on the appointment of a minister.
“This appointment is in line with Article 43(2)(b) of the Federal Constitution,
that says; Yang di-Pertuan Agong should appoint a minister amongst any member of the Parliament with the advice of the Prime Minister,” said Radzi.
Radzi also emphasized that there is no necessity for the Prime Minister to discuss the appointment in any meeting except if he feels to do so.
“In the context of the appointment of a new education minister, which the
former was from BERSATU, there is no need for Pakatan Harapan (PH) to
discuss in a meeting to decide who will be the next minister appointed from
“Therefore all parties should respect the prerogative or the discretionary power
of the Prime Minister in the appointment of a new education minister,” said
