Israeli man pleaded not guilty for trafficking six firearms, possessing 158 bullets

KUALA LUMPUR:  Israeli citizen, Shalom Avitan, 38, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here Friday on two charges of possessing 158 bullets and trafficking six firearms two weeks ago.

Shalom who lives in Bnel Brak, Israel nodded his head after the charges were read in English before Sessions Court Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar.

“I understand. Not guilty,”Avitan said.

The accused was strictly guided by four policemen at three corners and he was charged for trafficking six firearms namely Glock 19 USA, Sig Sauer P320SP, Cougar 8000 FT, Glock 17 Gen4 Austria, N&P 9C Smith &Wesson Spring Field MA USA and Soeger Cougar 8000F.

He was charged committing the offence in a hotel room at Jalan Ampang between 6.46pm 26 March until 6.00pm 28th March 2024.

Shalom was framed under Section 7(1) Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 that carries a jail sentence between 30 to 40 years and whipping with not less than six strokes if found guilty.

For the second charge, he was accused of possessing a box of Shell Shock NAS3 9mm containing eight bullets and three boxes of Bullet Master Co Ltd (150 bullets) on the date, time and same location.

For that offence the charge was following Section 8(a) Firearms Act 1960 that carries a jail sentence of not less than seven years or maximum fine RM10, 000 or both if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohamad Mustafa P.Kunyalam did not propose for a bail as the offence is unbailable.

However, the accused lawyer, Navinjit Singh did not object to the bail issue.

After hearing to both sides, the court allowed the accused not to be bailed and fixed the case to be mentioned on 21st May 2024.

Last Monday, a local citizen who is a housewife and associated to the selling of the firearms to the Israeli citizen pleaded not guilty at the Klang Sessions Court on one charge for owning a pistol LUGER at the end of March 2024.

On the same charge, her husband pleaded not guilty for knowing that his wife owned the firearm illegally as they were together. – Malaysia World News
