PUTRAJAYA JULY 7: The appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Deputy Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein as Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs is aimed at elevating the capabilities of Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening the unity among parties that form the government.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in its statement said, the appointment of the two ministers is also to strengthen PN government with good governance, transparency, free from corruption and with integrity.
The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has appointed Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Deputy Prime Minister while still holding his portfolio as Minister of Defence.
“The appointment of Ismail is also to assist the Prime Minister in managing the administration of the country and fulfilling the needs of the people in the health crisis and current economy,” the PMO said in a statement here today.
The statement said, as a Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein will head the Security Cluster that was led by Datuk Ismail before. The Prime Minister agreed that Hishammuddin will help him in the implementation of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
According to the statement, the two appointments that will take effect immediately have been presented to His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin in a statement said, he is aware and realise that in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, the responsibility and the hopes of the people are high and with Allah’s willing, he will carry the responsibility in the best possible way.
“I believe that only with stability, unity and the cooperation from all parties, we will be able to come out from this crisis together,” Hishammuddin reiterated.
