KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government through the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) slapped Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa, with a lawsuit in court demanding payment of income tax of RM10.3 million for the 2011 to 2017 assessment years.

In a statement of claim, IRB said Nooryana Najwa had failed to submit a Single Person Real Form pursuant to Section 77 of the Income Tax Act 1967 for the Assessment Year 2011 to 2017.

Since the defendant failed to pay the tax amount within 30 days from the date of service of notice to him under Section 103 of the Income Tax Act, the IRB said the 10 per cent tax increase amounted to RM243,069.47, RM2,661.32, RM601,195.76, RM27, 183.29, RM4,852.69 and RM13,759.52 and RM2,108.43 were charged and added to the total unpaid taxes.

According to the IRB, Nooryana Najwa has still failed to explain the entire income tax and the increase within the stipulated 60 days, so a further five percent tax hike will be imposed on her.

They are RM133,688.21, RM1,463.72, RM330,657.67, RM14,950.81, RM2,668.98, RM7,567.73 and RM1,159.64.

The IRB asserted, therefore, that they were entitled to recover the amount of income tax owed as well as the increase incurred against the defendant as a timely and payable tax.

According to the plaintiff, to this day, the defendant has still failed to pay all the income tax amount.

Accordingly, the IRB sought an order for Nooryana Najwa to pay income tax amounting to RM10,335,292.36, interest at a rate of five per cent per annum on the amount from the date of judgment until payment, costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Senior Superintendent of the Shah Alam High Court Registrar, SS Malini Anne set a hearing on September 12 for case management.

On June 25, the Malaysian government through the IRB filed a lawsuit against Najib demanding that he pay RM1.69 billion in income tax for the 2011 to 2017 assessment years.

The government has also filed a suit against Najib’s other son, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Mohd Najib, to demand payment of income tax of RM37.6 million.

However, the daughter of former prime minister Najib Razak claims that the government is abusing the law to victimize her and her family.

“Just like in the case of my father and siblings who have been similarly hit on a ridiculous basis, many who know the details of the case are shocked and speechless at how blatantly the government is abusing the laws,” Nooryana Najwa wrote on her Facebook.

She claimed that she had long submitted documents to prove that most of the money which the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) considered as income was from her husband’s family in Kazakhstan.
