KUALA LUMPUR: The Madani government held meetings in two consecutive days to discuss the grave situation in the Middle East and the efforts to be taken to shield the country and Malaysians from its impact.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the launching of the drones by Iran is a legitimate act following the barbarous attack of the Israeli Zionist regime against the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria.

“We are pleased to note the assurances given by the Iranian government that unless further attack by the Zionist Israeli regime, this will be their only reaction.

“We join with the civilized world to urge the Zionist Israeli regime not to aggravate further an already extremely tense situation. There are clear signs indicating that the world has no desire to see a worsening situation,” Anwar said in his Facebook post, Monday.

The prime minister added, to date the impact on the Malaysian economy has been minimal, with the KLSE opening only slightly lower, reflecting regional trends.

“The Madani government will continue to monitor this situation very closely and take proactive measures to ensure the security, welfare and well-being of all Malaysians. The interests of the country will be our primary consideration.

“The key to resolving this issue is the just and immediate resolution of the inhumane situation in Gaza. Therefore, global attention must be devoted fully to it, with no distractions.

“There must be a durable ceasefire which will enable the passage of humanitarian aid. In this connection, the country’s latest contribution of 100 containers is expected to leave Malaysia on 27 April,” he said.

Earlier Anwar said, he has chaired a Special Meeting of the National Security Council on Monday morning. Participating in the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister 1, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, Minister of Home Affairs, Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Tan Sri Mohd. Zuki Ali, Chief Secretary to the Government and other senior government officials. –Malaysia World News
