PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Immigration Malaysia (DIM) had taken seriously on the video that went viral involving an argument between an Immigration Officer and a member of the public at UTC Selangor, Anggerik Mall Shah Alam recently.
Director General Immigration Malaysia, Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said, even though in the preliminary investigation, it was found that the element of provocation was initiated by a member of the public, but the action taken by the officer in the incident was against the slogan of the department, that is “Integrity, Professional and Friendly”.
Khairul said it is a fact that shouting and uttering harsh words at a civilian is unwarranted and should not be done by an Immigration Officer who is a civil servant.
“Immigration Officers should be smart in controlling themselves and act professionally when confronted with provocation from a civilian because they have been trained and given sufficient guidance.
“In this case, DIM had taken immediate action by transferring the officer to another division. Meanwhile an investigation paper following the regulation and displinary procedures will be opened immediately by the Integrity Division of the department,” Khairul said in a statement.
Subsequently, DIM had expressed regret on the civilian who had provocated the immigration officer. Many facilities have been provided for the public to renew their passports such as online application and the extended time of operation including Saturday and Sunday. Therefore DIM would like to advise the people to refer to the department’s social website for the latest information.
According to DIM, there will be no compromise on any officer who is not professional and at the same time the department will take necessary action on any party that attempts to downgrade the image and the credibility of the department. –Malaysia World News
