RIYADH: Muslim countries are sending a strong signal to the world that they are united in their desire to eradicate terrorism.
Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said only through unity the Muslim countries could show their commitment as “brothers” in the mission to fight terrorism and uphold the safety and security of the ummah.
“Admittedly there will many difficulties and setbacks ahead. But this much I do know; there can be no turning back. It will be a great tragedy if we let the progress we have made slip away from our grasp.
“What we do today will not only determine the fate of our Ummah, but also the future of Islam which we have built together,” Hishammuddin said.
Hishammuddin who is also the Minister with Special Functions said that at the inaugural Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Ministerial Meeting held in Riyadh recently.
Hishammuddin reiterated it is the responsibility of Muslim Nations to address terrorism problems which have tarnished the face of Islam.
“Today’s meeting is very important, if not for us who else can we rely upon to take the helm in the war against terror? As fellow Muslims and brothers in the Ummah, it is us after all who will bear the greatest burden if the cause of peace fails,” he said.
The Minister of Defence also said, the instability surrounding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will serve as an avenue for terrorists groups to flourish and as such he has instructed the Malaysian Armed Forces to remain in the Kingdom for three reasons:
1) If necessary to be in a position to provide assistance and facilitate the evacuations of Malaysians in the region; 2) To provide humanitarian assistance and possibly contribute to rebuilding efforts in Yemen if required; 3) To signify Malaysia’s steadfast and resolute stand with Saudi Arabia in preserving the security and sanctity of the two Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah.
“Malaysia is ready to share its expertise, as we have worked with partners around the world, but where do we go from here? What we learn from the IMCTC?
“We have embraced that understanding and cooperation are our utmost priority and as the best guarantee against conflict. The key for us is to be able to accept our differences, find common ground on the problems we face and go forward together,” he added. – Malaysia World News.
