Kuala Lumpur: Supervisors in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would be held accountable if they failed to supervise and take action on officers and members involved in misconduct.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Deputy IGP), DIG Dato’ Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, said the increase in misconduct cases requires firmness and courage in supervision through the “close monitoring” method.

The IGP warned that action will be taken against supervisory officers from all levels if they fail to implement the IGP’s directive last August, which ordered “Total Enforcement” on Regulation 3C of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.

“There is no longer any reason among supervisors not to want to take any action against officers and members who are involved in misconduct because they want to be popular or make the aspect of ‘esprit de cops’ a refusal to take firm action.

“It’s not just action, in fact reprimands are not taken because there is no courage and decisiveness”, he said while speaking at the September 2023 KPN Monthly Assembly organized by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) at Dewan Theatertte near Bukit Aman, here this morning.

He also advised members of the Force not to be afraid or worried about mischievous allegations as long as the actions taken are in accordance with the law.

Commenting on the accusations that have often been hurled recently, that the PDRM do not carry out their duties professionally or investigate and make ‘selective’ arrests, he advised members of the Force not to be afraid, worried or angry about the mischievous allegations as long as the actions taken are in accordance with the law.

“As long as we follow the law, standard operating procedures and are sincere in carrying out our duties and responsibilities ‘without fear or favour’, we don’t need to worry.

“We don’t want to be popular, we don’t want to be artists or fear losing Facebook, Instagram (or) Tiktok followers. Be firm, sincere and professional in carrying out our duties and responsibilities”, he added.
