PETALING JAYA: Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed warns that the ministry will not compromise with policemen involved in drugs.
“We found some policemen use drugs due to work pressure,” he said at an event at Warung Pak Lah, Dataran Utama, in Taman Kempas, Johor Baru, yesterday.
“How can we trust them to fight the drug menace if they are on drugs themselves?”
Nur Jazlan, who is also the Pulai MP, said the ministry has taken steps to test candidates during recruitment exercises to curb the menace.
“The ministry conducts various tests, including psychological checks, at the entry level and for existing members. For example, before promotion, they have to undergo a test to determine their condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun told Malay Mail that police officers found involved in crime will face the full brunt of the law just as any other criminal.
“Police will not compromise and protect individuals who tarnish the good image of the force,” he said.
Fuzi said this following the arrest of at least 16 police personnel for criminal activities nationwide in recent days.
“There are bad apples and they will be punished accordingly as the force is still served by many law-abiding officers.
“Police officers are not above the law and the public can report errant cops and their misconduct at the federal police Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, ” he said.
