KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh urged the government to sell the houses to be built in Kampung Sungai Baru only to the Bumiputera as originally the land belongs to them.
In his Facebook post, Muhamad Akmal said, if the houses could not be bought by the Bumiputera, the government through the agency such as UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) should buy and rent it out as a rent-buy to the Bumiputera.
“This is not the time to point fingers who are at fault, but the solution for the people’s benefits,” he said.
He added, the original land owners could stay in better quality houses and at the same time the Bumiputera land could be saved.
Earlier it was reported that a commotion had happened when a group of residents refused to cooperate when the evacuation operation was taking place in several houses at Kampung Sungai Baru.
In that incident, the Dang Wang District Chief Police, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman was injured on the face when he tried to stop the residents to break into the police control to enter the area in operation.
The location had been strictly controlled by the police as early as 7.am on Thursday while the security officers had been requesting the residents to disperse to ensure the operation could be carried out smoothly.
Meanwhile Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said, developers must understand the uniqueness of Kampung Sungai Baru land and any redevelopment effort must preserve and take into account the interests of the Malay community.
“As the original residents of the land the Malays can own the new homes at reasonable prices and help them build good lives there with their families.
“Today we are facing a very serious problem regarding the redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru and I do not agree with this.
“Since it has already taken place and cannot be reversed, the developer must ensure the redevelopment of the 3.19-hectare area results in housing that the Malays can afford,” he said in a statement.
