
Kuala Lumpur 5 April – Malaysian Minister of Defence, Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein`s visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain which ended yesterday was very successful and historical as it strengthened the diplomatic and defence ties between the two countries.
Hishammuddin said the visit strengthened the relationship between the two Islamic countries.
In the meeting, His Majesty the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa said that he was very proud of the close relationship that was bonded between Malaysia and Bahrain.
His Majesty King Hamad also expressed his happiness on the strong cooperation established in the military and defence aspects between the two countries, added Hishammuddin.
The Malaysian Minister of Defence also mentioned that he shared information and experiences with King Hamad on the efforts made by Malaysia in addressing terrorists’ threats especially the DAESH group.
Hishammuddin said, he had also briefed King Hamad about the plan to establish King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP), which was initiated by Malaysia and Saudi Arabia that aimed at strengthening cooperation in the effort to stop the spreading of terrorists` ideologies and propaganda, and eliminate misunderstandings and misconceptions about Islam.
Hishammuddin also met the Crown Prince of Bahrain who is also the First Deputy Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace, and discussed the development of military cooperation between Bahrain and countries in Asia including Malaysia. The form of cooperation is focused more on the efforts to address the security threats at the regional level and globally.
Prince Salman also emphasized that, under the leadership of King Hamad, Bahrain will continue to strengthen its cooperation with Malaysia and open more sharing opportunities that cover commercial, development and security.
“In my meeting with the Minister of Defence Affairs, Lieutenant General, Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Jalahma, we discussed general peace issues that affects the world, defence cooperation involving both countries, apart from the new threats that change the global defence landscapes,” he said.
Hishammuddin also met the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa at the Bahrain Defence Force Centre, and both of them discussed the potential forms of defence cooperation which could be implemented in Malaysia and Bahrain in future.
Hishammuddin also attended an official dinner hosted by the Commander of Bahrain’s Royal Guide, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and exchange ideas concerning defence and military aspects.
Shaikh Nasser personally hopes that cooperation between the two countries will continue until it achieves the highest level, said Hishammuddin.
Hishammuddin also said, the Malaysian delegation has met the Chief Executive EDB Bahrain, Khalid Al Romaihi and discussed matters regarding strengthening cooperation between the two countries in many aspects including defence.
Hishammuddin said, his visit to Bahrain was very important as it has enabled a closer relationship to be established between Malaysia and Bahrain, and he hopes Malaysia and Bahrain relationship will continue to grow stronger and stronger.
