KUALA LUMPUR 17 JULY: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmakers support and positively take the hopes and the expectations of the Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V in his opening speech this morning.
His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong today gave the royal address at the first meeting of the first session of the 14th Parliament on Tuesday.
Minister of Federal Territories Khalid Samad said, His Majesty was very clear about his hopes and expectations on the new government to move forward and bring the nation to greater heights.
To achieve success, Khalid hopes the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat will give MPs enough space to clarify and debate issues.
“To enable meaningful debates and discussions to progress, a restructuring and parliamentary reforms should be made.
“For that matter, a Parliamentary Selective Committee should be formed so that issues to be debated would be discussed at this level first before being brought to the Dewan,” he said to the media at the Parliament lobby today.
Khalid also acknowledges that the PH government is facing with new challenges and have to work hard to continue the prosperity of the country that the former Barisan Nasional (BN) government has left.
Minister of Defence, Muhammad Sabu supports His Majesty’s concern about preserving religious duties and good moral values despite progressing towards modernization.
He said, to curb social ills and negative elements affecting the societies the government agencies and NGOs should join the Harmony Council which will be formed later.
Minister of Youth and Sports Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he will try his best to strengthen integrity, good governance and the rule of law within his ministry.
To enable the good values to be implemented effectively Syed Saddiq said, any case affecting integrity will be reported directly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) without any politicians’ interference.
Syed Saddiq (pic) said that to a question relating to a case relating integrity amounting RM100 million involving the Ministry during the BN government.
He added he will allow the relevant authorities to conduct forensic auditing on that case.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr. Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the PH government respects individual rights and freedom as long as it does not contravene with the Malaysian cultures.
On the question of LGBT in the Muslim community and the government’s stand on this Mujahid said, the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) is conducting ongoing programmes to engage the LGBT groups in series of social and religious consultations. -Malaysia World News
