Former Prime Minister Najib Razak sentenced to 12 years in prison


Even those who were criticizing their Former Prime Minister Najib Razak and wishing him jail for many years since 1MDB scandal was exposed, Today all Malaysians feel very sad and disheartened to hear and see their Former Prime Minister Najib Razak, the son of the 

Federal Court upholds Former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s conviction and sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment and a fine of RM210 million for seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power involving RM42mil from SRC’s funds.

Najib Razak is the first ever former prime minister in the history of Malaysia to be sent to jail.

He is set to begin serving his jail term effective today.

According to the Star Najib’s lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik requested for a stay of execution pending a review application on the decision, but his request was denied by the court.

Besides the 12-year jail sentence, Najib has to pay an RM210 million fine. If he cannot pay he will get another 5 years jail.
 
Earlier, the panel of five judges rejected Najib’s request to recuse Chief Justice, Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat from hearing and deciding his appeal. Last week, the court also dismissed Najib`s application to adduce new evidence to support his appeal.
 
“These appeals are therefore unanimously dismissed and the conviction and sentence are affirmed.

I pronounce the warrant of committal,” the Chef of Justice said.
