Putrajaya: Malaysian government has allowed the foreign workers to enter Malaysia (starting from 23th October 2021) to fulfil the needs of plantation sectors as presented by the Ministry of Human Resources (MHR).
However, Ismail said, the SOPs will be enforced on all sectors that have been fixed and approved via case-by-case basis by the Foreign Workers Committee that is jointly chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Human Resources.
Ismail added, the Pandemic Management Special Committee today has also approved the SOP for foreign workers’ entry to Malaysia. The quota, date and the entry of foreign workers for other job sectors will depend on the decision of the Joint Meeting of Home Minister and Human Resources Minister.
Industries, Plantations and Commodities Minister, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin announced earlier that 32,000 foreign workers for the plantation sector will arrive in Malaysia in stages from the middle of this month.
She said the workers, coming from countries such as Indonesia and Bangladesh, have all completed their Covid-19 vaccinations.
“They will arrive in Malaysia in stages this month. Many Malaysians aren’t ready to take on these jobs. Perhaps when we have acquired new technologies, we can then offer more lucrative salaries to compel Malaysians to enter the sector,” she was quoted as saying.
