Foreign Ministry received 301 job scam cases from 4 countries, 168 brought back safely –Foreign Ministry

PUTRAJAYA 21 SEPT: Another batch of 15 victims of job scams from Cambodia had arrived safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), 20th Sept.2022, 11.50pm via flight AK535 from Phnom Penh.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said, as of 21st Sept. the ministry had received 301 job scam cases from four countries. From the total, 168 victims had been saved and brought back to Malaysia.

“Besides that 34 victims are in the immigration detention depot, while the authorities of the countries involved are still tracking the remaining 99 victims.

“The Ministry is very concerned on the fate of the Malaysian citizens who become the victims of the fake job offer syndicate.

“Earlier the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah had an online meeting with the Foreign Ministers /MalaysianTemporary Power Effort in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand on 19th Sept. for further detailed actions to enhance the efforts in saving the Malaysian citizens involved,” the statement added.

The statement said, Saifuddin had also activated a save mission through the related Malaysian representatives in the efforts to address the problems immediately. The Minister had also instructed for more proactive approaches to be taken in handling the issue.

The statement also emphasized, besides Cambodia, the Ministry via the Malaysian embassies in Laos, Myanmar and Thailand are also activating their efforts to trace, save and bring back the Malaysian citizens who are victims of the fake job offer syndicates in those countries. – Malaysia World News
