PUTRAJAYA: The Home Ministry warns today that firm action will be taken against any quarter using rallies to create racial and religious tension, NST reported.
According to the national media, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin vows irresponsible quarters causing hatred and dividing the community by abusing racial and religious issues would face the full brunt of the law.
“There are quarters claiming that the position of Islam in the country is being threatened under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to the extent that they want to organise a rally.
“I am of the view that the rally that is going to be organised this weekend has the potential to create racial and religious sentiments.
“As the home minister, I would like to remind all quarters that the ministry, through the police, will not hesitate to take action against anyone who insults others’ religions,” NST quoted him as saying..
Muhyiddin was referring to a rally that Gerakan Pembela Ummah is organising on Saturday purportedly to “defend Islam”.
He reminded all quarters that the position of Islam as the religion of the federation was clearly stated in the Federal Constitution.
“This (the position of Islam) will never be changed. Claims that Islam is under threat (under the PH administration) is not true.”
