Ex-patients will experience post COVID-19 syndromes for 12 weeks-Noor Hisham

PUTRAJAYA: Post COVID-19 syndromes will be experienced by ex-patients for 12 weeks or more and it could not be explained with any alternative diagnosis.

Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the syndrome is caused by the COVID-19 infection complication on the functions of several organs in an individual body.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, according to a clinical study carried out by the Ministry of Health (MOH) involving 1,004 patients from category 4 and 5 who received follow-up treatments, 66 per cent have experienced post COVID syndromes.
He said, among the five syndromes that are frequently experienced by the ex- COVID-19 patients are fatigue, difficulty in breathing when doing activities (exertional dyspnea), difficulty to sleep (insomnia), cough and anxiety.
“Generally, the clinical data has shown majority of the ex-COVID-19 patients in Malaysia could be healed totally. However, a few will be affected by the post COVID syndrome.
“To date the treatment offered will be based on the symptoms that are shown by the patients (symptomatic relief) and the function of the individual’s body.
Reference to the related specialists will be done to ensure patients will receive optimum clinical treatment,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement here today.
He added, the clinical study will continuously be carried out to understand and identify the effects of post COVID syndrome and it will be announced to the public from time to time.
In view of that, Dr. Noor Hisham said, ex-COVID-19 patients will be given follow-up treatments and they will be reminded to be present on the date that has been fixed.
However he said, ex-patients who have symptoms are advised to get medical
advice and treatment at the clinic or nearby hospital. This is important to maintain the health level of ex-COVID-19 patients and to lessen any complication in the long term. –Malaysia World News
