KUALA LUMPUR FEB.22: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) had been imposed on Kampung Emperoh Jambu, Padawan , Bahagian Kuching, Sarawak and Kampung Tanah Merah, Kota Marudu, Sabah effective 23rd Feb. until 8th March 2021 following a surge in COVID-19 cases in the localities.
Senior and Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob said, EMCO had been imposed in Kampung Emperoh Jambu in Sarawak following 60 positive COVID-19 cases had been detected in the locality besides the high rate of infectivity in the community.
“After a risk analysis was carried out with several agencies in the MCO Technical Committee besides the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH) the government had decided the locality had to be under EMCO,” Ismail said in a statement here today.
Ismail added, the EMCO will enable MoH to carry out the targeted screenings on 1,215 people and to control the corona virus from spreading into the community.
Meanwhile MoH had confirmed that there was a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in Kampung Tanah Merah in Sabah following 57 people were detected positive from 226 screening tests that had been carried out.
“After risk analysis was carried out by MoH with other related agencies in the MCO Technical Committee, the government had decided to enforce EMCO in the locality effective tomorrow (23rd Feb.) until 8th March 2021,” said Ismail.
Ismail added, during the EMCO, MoH will be carrying out targeted screening tests on 545 people in the locality and subsequently controlling COVID-19 from spreading into the community.
In another development, 10,288 foreign workers were screen tested yesterday and out of which nine had been detected with COVID-19.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources, 437,211 foreign workers had done COVID-19 screen tests involving 21,403 employers.
“From the total number of foreign workers, 7,852 had positive COVID-19 while 429,359 were negative from the corona virus infections,” said Ismail.
The Senior Minister added, up to date 1,449 clinics had been involved in the screening tests programme.
“As been announced earlier, the screening tests of COVID-19 on foreign workers are compulsory effective 1st February 2021,” said Ismail.
Regarding non-compliances with the standard operating procedure (SOP) of MCO, Ismail said, 509 individuals had been detained and out of which 466 were compounded, 39 remanded and four were on bail.
Among the non-compliance activities committed were: Inter district/state travel without permission (120), fail to provide tools to record self and customers’ particulars (111), no physical distancing (95), gambling activities (54), not wearing mask (49), activities in entertainment centres (37), out of the house without reasonable cause (11), premises operating beyond the permitted time/without permission (8) and others (24). –Malaysia World News
