Earthquake in China: Consulate General in Xian could be contacted to assist Malaysians affected

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and families affected in the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck China’s northwest of Gansu and Qinghai provinces on 18th Dec.2023 at 11.59 pm.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, that approximately 105 died and 397 casualties were reported in Gansu while 11 people were killed in Qinghai according to the local authority.

The local authority also reported that 4,700 houses were damaged with some villages facing power and water supply disruption along with transportation and communication.

“At present no Malaysian has been reported to be affected by the earthquake.

“The Ministry through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Xian will continue monitoring the earthquake closely.

“Malaysians in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow the latest updates and advice issued by the local authorities,” said the ministry in its statement, on Tuesday.
