DSA and NATSEC collected RM18.4 billion

 KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Defence Ministry today announced that the Defence Service Asia ( DSA) Exhibition for Asia and the International Exhibition of National Security for Asia 2018 (NATSEC) have collected RM18.4 billion through various forms of contract documents.

Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the total sums were collected through eight contracts, three memorandum of understanding (MOUs), six offsets, 10 letter of acceptance (LOAs) and three letter of intent (LOIs).

 Hishammuddin who is also the Minister with Special Functions said, most of the contract value was contributed by six offset programs with a value of RM14.4 billion.

“Through this program the
Ministry of Defence acquires the advanced technology from the leading defence economy as well as technology and knowledge transfer to the local industry.

 “This program will also enhance the creation of local engineering to reduce dependency on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM),” he added.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) for the signing of the contract/MoU today is the continuation of the long-standing partnership between the two ministries successfully achieved during the implementation of several National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programs.

Earlier, Hishammuddin announced that DSA and NATSEC Asia 2020 will be held on 20 to 23 April in Kuala Lumpur.

Regarding the progress of DSA 2018 on its third day today, Hishammuddin added, the participants and international defence’ leaders had a bigger agenda and did not involve with the Malaysian politics even though the 14th General Election is close-by.

Hishammuddin also mentioned that the cooperation between the ASEAN defence leaders is achieved through the regional political stability, tolerance, moderation and good leadership.

He said the progress and the success of DSA and NATSEC 2018 are due to the positive responses from the leaders in this region and globally.
