Malaysia Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has received today His Excellency Imran Khan at his office in Putrajaya.
The Prime Minister of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is currently on a working visit to Malaysia.
During a joint press conference in Putrajaya, Imran thanked Dr Mahathir for defending Kashmir.
“Unfortunately, a very radical and extreme government has taken over in India and has put the people of Kashmir in an open prison for six months.
“It has taken all liberties, it has imprisoned the leadership, it has picked teenagers and put them in prison or they have disappeared.
“And in this, the way the prime minister, you have stood with us and spoken about the injustice going on, on behalf of the people of Pakistan, I really want to thank you,” he said.
On September last year, During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Mahathir had criticised India for its occupation of Kashmir.
“Now, despite the UN resolution on Jammu and Kashmir, the country has been invaded and occupied.
“The problem must be solved by peaceful means. India should work with Pakistan to resolve this problem. Ignoring the UN will lead to other forms of disregard for the UN and the rule of law,” he said as quoted by local media.
As a reaction, India has boycotted and banned Malaysia’s products, mainly palm oil. Since then India no more buying palm oil from Malaysia.
Imran said Pakistan would do its best to purchase Malaysian palm oil to help solve this issue.
“Since we noticed that India threatened Malaysia for supporting the Kashmir cause, they threatened Malaysia to cut their (India’s) palm oil import.
“Pakistan will do its best to compensate for that,” he said in the press conference.
