PETALING JAYA: The Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who is now the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan, does not look old, does not look his age, he is still strong and his mind is still sharp and innovative even at the age of 93.
Speaking at a forum which he attended yesterday by surprise, he dared those who call him “old”.
He said some people are young in age but they are sick in body and mind.
“There are two types of age – one in terms of years and another in terms of the body. The age of the body does not necessarily equate to the age in years.
“There are those who are only 50 but have aging-associated diseases such as dementia, and there are those who are old but can still think innovatively,” The Star quoted him as saying at the forum.
Actually, the Panelists at the forum were discussing whether Tun Dr. Mahathir was too old to become Prime Minister.
To the shock of the panelists and those present, Dr. Mahathir made a surprise visit to the forum which was held in Shah Alam and dared them to call him old in his face.
“I’m here, guys. Say it to my face,” he later on posted on Twitter.
Dr. Mahathir arrived at the forum with his wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Ali by surprise about a few minutes after it started at 3.15pm yesterday, and he was given the first seat, and many attendees even stood up to greet and welcomed him.
Asked how he took care of his health, Dr. Mahathir said: he controls his diet and does not eat a lot, even if the food is so delicious.
“My mother used to tell me to stop eating when food is tasty,” he said.
Among the forum panelists were fitness instructor Kevin Zahri Abdul Ghaffar, psychologist Prof Datuk Dr. Mat Saat Mohd Baki, and Universiti Utara Malaysia political science lecturer Dr. Kamarul Zaman Yusoff.
At the forum, Dr. Kamarul Zaman was arguing that leading a party is a “tough” task and the age factor and a person’s strength would affect it.
Dr. Mahathir, who is going to turn 93 by July, also dares the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to debate with him.
“Najib is still young. What is there to be afraid of in debating an old person?” he wrote in his blog earlier.
