Interim Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has make a u-turn again and come back to Pakatan Harapan coalition as its parties PKR, DAP, and Parti Amanah Negara pledged to endorse him to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia again.
However, his party Bersatu and its MPs , who must have been shocked by this u-turn, did not follow him, except Syed Saddiq who claims he can not work with UMNO which endorses Muhhyddin Yassin as the next Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman tweeted a video statement on today morning, “I will never work together with the corrupt… My stand may not be accepted by certain politicians but politicians come and go.”
This plot twist had added more depth to Malaysia’s political drama, especially after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had last night secured majority support and was on the verge of becoming the 8th prime minister of Malaysia.
“This morning I had a meeting with leaders of Pakatan Harapan. I am now confident that I have the numbers needed to garner majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.
” I am prepared (now) to stand as prospective candidate for Prime Minister,” the 95 year old interim prime minister announced in a statement issued on Saturday morning (Feb 29),
Pakatan has expressed full support behind Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as candidate for Prime Minister, a statement said.
In another development, Bersatau considered Dr Mahathir resigned from the party (that he formed) as a chairman, and Muhyddin Yassin took over.
Muhyiddin Yassin said Bersatu has accepted Dr Mahathir`s Feb 24 resignation.
“Since we have not had a party election yet to select a new chairman, as president, I will assume the role of chairman until an election is held, ” Muhyiddin said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 29).
