PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, chaired the Cabinet Sports Development Committee here today to facilitate and tighten the initiatives’ delivery system and sports development programmes.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports said in its statement that it includes strengthening the cooperation of several sectors to achieve the aspiration of making Malaysia a “sporting nation.”
The statement added, to ensure Malaysia is not left behind other countries with advanced sports development, a High Level Committee (HLC) has been formed with the Deputy Prime Minister as the Chairman to lead the development of high-performance sports aimed at transforming the sport.
“HLC will focus on the talent development model for combat sports, athletics, and swimming with the cooperation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Ministry of Education.
“At the same time, HLC will explore the talents among military and enforcement personnel via the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs,” the statement said.
The ministry statement also highlighted that three consideration papers had been presented and discussed at the meeting: a) reviewing the memberships; b) reference terms and governance of the Cabinet Sports Development Committee (CSDC); c) the national contingent’s performance at the SEA Games in Cambodia 2023; d) the proposal of athletes’ preparation implementation towards the SEA Games 2025 and SEA Games 2027 crossing the ministry; and e) the proposal for the formation of Malaysian Sports Integrity (MSI).
According to the statement, the meeting had also agreed to invite government-linked companies (GLC) to sponsor sports programmes. This is to catalyse sports development with the involvement of various stakeholders, especially the GLC. Malaysia World News
