TENOM, SABAH: The Ulu Padas Hydroelectricity Dam Project is in line with the Unity Government’s development determination among others to guarantee the basic rights of the people especially accessibility to water supply and electricity in Sabah.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the project will benefit the state besides elevating the people’s socio-economic growth. The flow of 6,000 million litre of clean and stable water per day is expected to be produced by the dam.

“I have stressed that the project will be monitored intensively from time to time to ensure it is built and completed on schedule.

“I would like to repeat and strengthen the Government’s decision to grant the biggest allocation to Sabah and Sarawak in the 2024 Budget following some people have questioned on this at the debate session in Dewan Rakyat,” Anwar said in his Facebook post today.

“This is because Sabah is a bit left behind on the basic needs such as water, electricity and roads compared to the states in the Peninsular even though the country has been independent for decades.

“I am astonished of why the people have raised questions on this matter, are they not aware of the pressing needs of Sabah state that has been marginalized for a long time.

“I would like to stress that the development of Sabah must be driven and soared up as the state has a lot of potentials that must be focused on and widened for the harmony of the people,” Anwar said.

The groundbreaking event for the Ulu Padas Hydroelectricity Dam Project in Ulu Tomani, Tenom had been launched in a strong and friendly atmosphere between the Federal and State government.

Present at the event were Chief Minister, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Function besides Deputy Chief Minister, State Government Senior Officers and top management of Sabah Energy Corporation.

Anwar said, his friend who is also the Kemabong Assemblyman, Rubin Balang was also present at the event.- Malaysia World News
