Defence communication networks saved from “Dark Pink” hackers – MOF Chief Affendi

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) affirms that the security aspects and cyber defence have consistently been monitored and protected from all kinds of threats attempting to disturb the defence communication networks.

MAF Chief, General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, (RMAF) said, this is in response to the media reports stating that the new hackers’ group identified as “Dark Pink” has used the data lure e-mail and advance software to affect the army defence in the Philippines and Malaysia as well as government organisation in Cambodia, Indonesia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“In this situation, the modus operandi that had been detected was the hackers had implemented the lure e-mail with the attempt to attack at random the official e-mail networks that have been used by several agencies in the Defence Ministry and MAF,” Affendi said in a statement.

However the MAF Chief said, the hackers’ activities have been detected earlier and prevention activities have been reasonably implemented. Currently, the whole MAF communication networks that are exposed to internet reach have been saved.

Affendi stressed that MAF consistently monitors and increases the cyber security aspects from time to time as a step to address any kind of cyber reactions from foreign elements that could disturb the cyber system operations and MAF ICT and the Ministry of Defence.

“All kinds of actions taken are to prevent and break the modus operandi and the use of current technology by the hackers that are consistently becoming a threat not only in the monitoring networks and MAF defence communication but also the National Defence Strategic Communication networks,” Affendi reiterated. –Malaysia World News
