Death of drag racer: Event organizer did not get authorization from MAM – MSCO

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Sports Commission Office (MSCO) took seriously the incident of a drag racer, Hattem Rashid,22, who died after involving in an accident at the Malaysia Drag Bike National ET Record Championship Road Tour 2023 on 3rd September 2023 at the Pekan Speedway Circuit, Pekan Pahang.

MSCO in a statement said, in an investigation earlier, the championship was found to have been organised without the authorization of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) – the body that manages the motor sports in the country.

“MSCO will further conduct an investigation under the Sports Development Act 1997(Act 576) to check whether there is any breach under the Act.

“All parties are advised to get the status of organising the type of sports event with MSCO to ensure all safety aspects are emphasized seriously. MSCO is consistently cooperating with MAM to ensure the motor sports safety is always preserved,” the statement said.
