Datuk Amizar retains BN seat in Pelangai with 7,324 votes, 2,949 majority

BENTONG: The UMNO-BN candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam who garnered 7,324 votes with the majority of 2,949 had won the Pelangai state seat by-election held today.

Amizar had won against his opponents namely Kasim Samat from Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 4,375 votes while Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli from Independent collected only 47 votes.

Meanwhile, the Pelangai state assembly seat was vacant following the death of Datuk Seri Johari Harun who died in an aircraft crash at Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam on Aug.17 2023.

The Election Commission (EC) returning officer, Datuk Mohammad Shahid Ismail at the Felda Kemasul community Hall tallying centre also announced that 120 votes had been rejected while the voters’ turnout was 72.12 per cent.

In the 15th General Elections, Datuk Seri Johari Harun won the Pelangai state seat in a four cornered fight. He won by a 4,048 majority after securing 7,308 votes. He beat Kasim who garnered 3,260 seats, Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri of Pakatan Harapan (2,031 votes) and Isa Ahmad of Pejuang (65 votes).

However, former Pahang Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob served as the Pelangai elected representative for eight terms between 1986 and 2018 before he was replaced by Johari in GE15. – Malaysia World News
