DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has suggested today that Anwar Ibrahim can be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister if he does not have majority support of the MPs to become a Prime Minister.
His suggestion came after news reports said that Former Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri is most likely to become the next Prime Minister of Malaysia as this latter has already secured the majority support of more than 114 MPs who are being invited by the palace today to meet the King and confirm their support for Ismail Sabri .
“If there are only two names for the post of prime minister, one can be appointed as prime minister and the other as deputy prime minister to form a war cabinet involving all political forces in Parliament to win the war against the Covid-19 epidemic before the 15th General Election within 18 months, ”he said in a statement today on his blog and Facebook page.
“In fact, since in the past seven days, we had a total of 145,965 Covid-19 cases and 1,929 Covid-19 deaths.
“This is Malaysia’s “darkest hour”. We must staunch the national haemorrhage to find our “finest hour” – and a War Cabinet and a War Parliament are the remedy for such dire times,” he explained.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has resigned as Prime Minister after the opposition parties including DAP and PKR rejected his bipartisan and cooperation offer.
Muhyiddin offered the opposition to join his Perikatan government and unite with him to stop the political instability and focus on the battle against the coronavirus and the economy.
All the opposition parties, as well as 13 MPs from Umno who withdrew support for Muhyiddin rejected joining his government and pressured him to resign.
