PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health is positive that the acute case detection and targeted approach on COVID-19 infections will give good impact and results in one or two week’s time.
Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the strategy has been used in the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and in the Enhanced MCO zones to curb the corona virus from spreading into the community.
Dr. Noor Hisham cited that 131 factory workers in Pedas Negeri Sembilan have been detected with positive COVID-19 recently and from that 122 are foreigners.
“The factory is now closed and sanitizing works are going on while the close contacts of those with positive COVID-19 are being traced and screened.
“The close contact of the cluster in the building site in Setia Alam has also been traced and those with positive COVID-19 have been isolated and treated in the hospital,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in his daily press conference here today.
He also reported that 24,125 foreigners have been screened and out of that 1,132 (4.7%) are detected with positive COVID-19, three are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 641 have recovered while four have died.
Meanwhile the health officers will screen test all the 2,900 residents in the Jalan Othman Market, Petaling Jaya area which is under EMCO from May 10 until May 23. EMCO was imposed on that area following 27 people were detected with positive COVID-19 recently.
“Those with negative results but have contacts with positive COVID-19 patients will be quarantined for 14 days.
“The possibility of COVID-19 spreading among foreign workers is that 15 to 30 people live in one house or apartment and the virus will spread easily in a congested place,” Dr. Noor Hisham added.
On the latest situation of COVID-19 Dr. Noor Hisham said 96 patients have been discharged and that brings the accumulative total to 5,025 or 75.5% and 67 new cases have been recorded and that brings to 6,656 since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Meanwhile from the new cases, 49 were foreigners, 18 people were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) while six needed respiratory aids. There was no death case today (10 May) and the death toll of 108 or 1.62% remained.
Dr. Noor Hisham said under the CMCO, many people have gone to work, thousands of students have gone back to their home towns and there are many movements among the people.
“During this time, the people should adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) strictly by keeping the social distance of one meter from one another, have optimum personal hygiene such as washing the hands frequently with water and soap and avoid crowded and confined space.
“Self regulation and discipline is the only way to break the transmission chain of COVID-19 in the society, “he reiterated. -Malaysia World News.
