DELHI: India is currently running out of oxygen supplies and hospital beds in the wake a second wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) infections.
Several hospitals in Delhi do not have enough oxygen supplies to cope with the seriousness of the medical emergency as hospitals flooded with increasing numbers of Covid-19 patients.
Reports said many people died while waiting for oxygen supplies, and almost all the beds in the intensive care rooms in Delhi hospitals are full.
Yesterday Max Healthcare announced an “SOS” on social media, saying two hospitals are awaiting fresh supplies from INOX for many hours. It said the two hospitals have more than 700 patients that need immediate assistance.
Max Healthcare said it had received emergency oxygen supplies after waiting for more than 7 hours, but unfortunately the emergency supplies were not enough and lasted only for few hours.
As of Friday (24 April) India has recorded over 16.3 million cases and over 187,000 fatalities, according to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
