Covid-19: Britain imposes nationwide lockdown


 LONDON: Britain Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has ordered three-week nationwide lockdown across the United Kingdom (UK) effective from yesterday evening (Monday, March 23) in an attempt to contain coronavirus outbreak that is increasingly spreading in England and all over the globe.

All British people including migrants have been asked to stay at home. They can leave home only for very limited purpose and when it is absolutely necessary. Police can fine those who do not follow the instruction.

“You must stay at home. It is the critical thing you can do to stop the disease spreading between households,” said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in his address to the nation last night.

Shops, libraries, playgrounds, churches, cinemas, gyms, offices have been ordered to close, except shops selling essential goods.

All public gatherings, weddings and other ceremonies are being banned, except funerals will be allowed.

These strict measures came after the UK death toll reached more than 335, while the number of Covid-19 deaths worldwide surged past 16,000 and the number of infection cases surpassed 360,000.
