COVID-19: 3,847 new cases, 50,894 actives cases, 11 new clusters at work places

PUTRAJAYA FEB.6: Eleven out of 12 clusters are related to work places with one involving the high risk group that contributed to 3,847 new COVID-19 cases adding to the cumulative total to 238,721with 50,894 active cases.

Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the 11 new clusters occurring at the work places including five in Selangor namely Industri Kampung Baru, Jalan Banting-Klang; Gudang Salak Tinggi, Jalan Kuala Selangor and Lingkaran Cyber.

Meanwhile three new clusters formed at the work places in Johor are Jalan Tun Mutalib, Jalan Istimewa Tujuh and Jalan Bayu Satu. The new cluster in Sabah is Jalan Chester while in Kuala Lumpur in Sungai Besi Construction Site while in Terengganu is the Gong Nering cluster.

However the Jalan Kubur Darau cluster in Terengganu occurred in the high- risk group.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, out of the new cases, 2,569 (66.8%) were involving Malaysians with 1,274 non-citizens (33.2%) while four were imported cases.

“From the new cases, 305 were admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) while 139 needed respiratory aids. However 1,692 had been discharged bringing the accumulative total to 189,970 (78.3%).

“Twelve deaths were reported today with three from Sabah while Johor (3), Kuala Lumpur (2), Melaka (2), Selangor (1) and Kelantan (1). Meanwhile the dead were eight Malaysians and four non-citizens,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.

Dr. Noor Hisham added, Selangor has recorded 1,481 cases (38.5%) being the state with highest number of new COVID-19 cases. From this 1,117 cases (75.4%) were from clusters and close contact screening tests that were carried out actively on the grounds. This is followed by Johor with 585 cases (15.2%) and Kuala Lumpur with 402 cases (10.4%).

On the other hand, 133 cases (3.5%) reported were related to the clusters in the lockups, immigration detention depots and prisons involving the Tembok Renggam (34), Tembok Sungai Udang (33), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (22), Jalan Harapan Prison (16), Tembok Taiping (16), Tembok Gajah (8), Tembok Mempaga (3) and Seberang Perai cluster (1).

States with new COVID-19 cases are Selangor with 1,481, Sabah (233), Kuala Lumpur (402), Johor (585), Negeri Sembilan (133), Penang (211), Perak (36), Kedah (64), Sarawak (185), Melaka (329), Kelantan (62), Pahang (48), Terengganu (56), Labuan (10), Putrajaya (8) and Perlis (4).-Malaysia World News
