PUTRAJAYA APR.25: Two hundred and eighty three (283) new COVID-19 cases were admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) with 121 needed respiratory aids today and it was considered one of the highest recorded with 10 deaths bringing the death toll to 1,436 or 0.37%.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, 2,690 new cases were recorded today with the cumulative total of 392,942 while 1,853 had been discharged adding to the cumulative total to 367,753.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, from the new cases, 2,397 (89.4%) were involving the citizens while 283 (10.6%) non-citizens while 10 were imported cases affecting two Malaysians and eight non-citizens.
“The 10 death cases were involving Malaysians, three each from Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak, Sabah (2) and one each in Selangor and Pulau Pinang while 23,753 were active cases,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.
On another development, Dr. Noor Hisham said, eight new clusters had been formed and out of which three were involving the work places, three in the education sectors including two clusters involving education institutions and one each in the detention centre and community.
“The clusters formed at the work places include, Putai (Sarawak), Ladang Paris Dua (Sabah), Jalan Melaka Raya (Melaka) while education institutions include Jalan Bukit Naga (Selangor) and Jalan Kuala Garing (Selangor), education cluster includes Halban Dua (Selangor), detention centre involving Pagar Sri Lalang (Johor) and Raya in Sarawak affecting the community,” Dr. Noor Hisham said.
Meanwhile Selangor recorded the highest daily COVID-19 with 751new cases (27.9%) and out of which 613 cases (81.6%) were from the clusters and the screening tests of close contacts of the infections that were conducted on the grounds in Selangor. This is followed by Sarawak with 595 cases (22.1%) and Kelantan recorded 424 cases (15.8%).
However, 18 cases (0.7%) recorded were related to the clusters in the prison and lockup involving Pagar Sri Lalang (15) and Pengkalan Chepa Wall (3).
States with new COVID-19 cases today incude Selangor (751), Perlis (1), Kedah (76), Pulau Pinang (117), Perak (64), Kuala Lumpur (217), Putrajaya (5), Melaka (42), Johor (159), Kelantan (424), Terengganu (25), Pahang (33), Negeri Sembilan (57), Labuan (3), Sabah (121) and Sarawak (595). –Malaysia World News
