China to contribute 500,000 doses of SinoVac-CoronaVac vaccines, Japan to provide AstraZeneca vaccines to Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA JUNE 16: The government of the People’s Republic of China has agreed to contribute 500,000 doses of SinoVac-CoronaVac vaccines for the people of Malaysia.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, he had received a message yesterday from his counterpart, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China about the vaccines’ contribution to Malaysia.

“On behalf of the Government of Malaysia, I would like to express Malaysia’s sincere gratitude to my counterpart. His Excellency Wang Yi and the Government of the People’s Republic of China for this generous contribution which will greatly assist us in our efforts to fight this pandemic,” Hishammuddin said in a statement here today.

Hishammuddin added, this timely contribution will bolster the vaccination process and assist the ongoing rollout of Malaysia’s National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.

On another development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, His Excellency Motegi Toshimitsu on 15th June 2021 had announced the provision of AstraZeneca vaccines manufactured in Japan to Malaysia.

“On behalf of the Government of Malaysia I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my counterpart, Minister Toshimitsu and the Government of Japan for this positive development.

“This is significant step in Malaysia-Japan ties which will be further consolidated for the mutual benefits of our two countries .

Malaysia is highly appreciative of the invaluable support extended by Japan, our longstanding partner, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Hishammuddin said in a statement here today.
