Bukit Aman: 22,911 scammers detained

Kuala Lumpur:  In its fight against commercial crime, fraud and scams, Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) has carried out a total of 18,221 operations and raids throughout the year 2023 , and a total of 22,911 individuals have been detained, Bukit Aman said in a statement today.

Throughout the year 2023, a total of 40,350 commercial crime cases were investigated by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK). This number is a 32% increase compared to the previous year which only recorded a total of 30,536 cases. the statement added.

According to Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) Director, YDH CP Dato’ Sri Ramli bin Mohamed Yoosuf, the value of losses also recorded an increase from RM1.73 billion in 2022 to RM2.11 billion in 2023.

Through a press conference held  Sri Ramli bin Mohamed Yoosuf said that online fraud cases recorded a total of 34,497 cases equal to 85.5% of the total number of cases. It includes E-commerce Crimes (11,473 cases), Telecommunications Crimes (10,348 cases), Non-existent Investments (5,386 cases), Non-existent Loans (4,263 cases), E-Financial Crimes (2,092 cases) and Love Scam (935 cases).
