JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional (BN) secured 48 of the 56 state seats in the Johor election on Saturday 11 July 2026, gaining eight more than it won in the 2022 election, giving the coalition the mandate to form the new government.

The appointment and swearing-in of Johor’s new menteri besar is expected to take place later today (Sunday) after BN’s big victory in the election.

The BN leaders are expected to head to the Johor Palace this morning for an audience before any announcement on the menteri besar appointment is made.

The Johor election saw BN secured a commanding majority, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won eight seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) failed to retain any of the three seats it won in the 2022 Johor election.

Attention will now turn to the Johor Palace, where the appointment of the next menteri besar is expected to pave the way for the formation of the new Johor government.

Meanwhile, the Johor BN Chairman, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has called on all quarters to put aside their differences and work together to develop Johor after BN secured a landslide victory in the state election.

Onn Hafiz pledged that Johor BN would be fair and serve all residents in the state regardless of other political affiliation.
“Once we have won, we will look after everyone. Malays, Chinese, Indians and all communities are part of Bangsa Johor,” he said as reported by NST.

Onn Hafiz said the election season was now over and it was time for all parties to close ranks and focus on building the Johor they had envisioned.

In another development, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated BN on securing the mandate of the Johor people in the state election.
Anwar said, the trust given by Johor voters must be carried out responsibly in the interest of the state and its people. Congratulations to BN on the mandate given by the people of Johor.

“The election and democratic process had come to an end and it was now time for all parties to move forward by prioritising service and responsibility towards the people,” he said in his Facebook post.

However, Anwar urged all PH candidates, regardless of whether they won or lost, to continue serving the people and bringing forward their voices.

“The federal government also remains committed to ensuring the development agenda and the well-being of Johor’s people continue to be strengthened and improved. Insya Allah,” he said.
