KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) garnered 18 seats while PN seven to secure 25 of the 36-seats at the Negri Sembilan state assembly, surpassing 24 seat thresholds required for a two-thirds majority to form the state government.

Based on the election results, BN won Chennah, Pertang, Sungai Lui, Palong, Jeram Padang, Lenggeng, Juasseh, Seri Menanti, Senaling, Pilah, Johol, Labu, Chembong, Rantau, Kota, Linggi, Gemencheh and Repah.

PN won seven seats namely Klawang, Serting, Sikamat, Ampangan, Paroi, Bagan Pinang and Gemas — with the latter marking Parti Wawasan’s first-ever state seat victory.

PH won the remaining 11 seats, based on the unofficial count.

The result marks a dramatic turnaround from the 2023 state election, when BN won 14 seats and PN secured five. PH, which had governed Negri Sembilan since 2018, was reduced to 11 seats and lost control of the state government.

Meanwhile, the biggest casualties in the state election were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke who is also Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman and caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. Loke, who had served as the Chennah assemblyman for three consecutive terms, lost to MCA’s Siow Kong Choon.

Aminuddin popularly known as Tok Min, lost the Linggi seat which he chose to contest instead of defending his traditional Sikamat stronghold, which he had held for four terms to Mohd Faizal Ramli in a three-cornered contest.

The results of the state election also ended the tenure of four-term PH incumbent Veerapan Superamaniam, who is also a state executive councillor, after he lost the Repah seat.

Among BN’s winners was Negri Sembilan Umno chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, who retained Pertang after defeating PH’s Mohd Umry Abdul Khois and Bersatu’s Mohd Faizal Fadli Mohd Idrus.

Jalaluddin previously represented Pertang from 2013 to 2018 before regaining the seat in the 2023 state election.

Meanwhile, Parti Wawasan’s Ridzuan Ahmad delivered the party’s first-ever state seat by winning Gemas, while PN’s Danni Rais won Klawang.

In another development, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he will seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan before deciding on the coalition’s candidate for the Menteri Besar post.

“I will first seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar as soon as possible,” Ahmad Zahid told reporters at the Negri Sembilan Umno headquarters here tonight.
He was responding to questions on the coalition’s choice for the next Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar.

Earlier BN and PN announced they would form the Negri Sembilan government after the coalition secured a two-thirds majority based on the election results.
