KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional manifesto has 21 pledges for the two Borneo states, Sabah and Sarawak.
The manifesto gives more rights to Sabah and Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Among the pledges, the manifesto promises to boost the standard of English.
A Dual Language Programme (DLP) will be implemented.
“It will benefit our children. We must acknowledge that English is an international language and failure to grasp it will cause us to lag in many aspects,” the Star quoted Sabah MCA deputy chairman Datuk Francis Goh as saying.
Now parents will be able to send their children to English-medium public schools.
BN also promises to preserve native culture, literature and languages such as Iban and Kadazandusun.
The manifesto also pledges to cover infrastructure development, transportation, and power generation in Sabah and Sarawak.
Both states have been pledged RM2bil to improve telecommunications, RM2.3bil to expand power supply, and RM4.3bil for the Trans Sabah Gas Pipeline project.
