PUTRAJAYA DEC,14: The Unity Government did not intend to increase the electricity tariff for domestic users and do not want to burden the people.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, besides domestic users, electricity tariffs are also not being charged to small, medium entrepreneur (SMEs) companies, agriculture, and food suppliers.
“The giant companies will not receive subsidies as the electricity tariffs are too low for them and their profits are high. If there is an increase in the electricity tariff, the multinational companies will be affected,” Anwar said at the press conference after chairing the Cabinet meeting today.
Meanwhile on the vote of confidence at the special Dewan Rakyat session on 19th Dec.2022, Anwar said, he is confident of obtaining a two-thirds majority.
The Tambun Member of Parliament said this is based on the commitment given by the party leaders under the Unity Government namely Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Warisan and other parties.
On 24th Nov.2022, Anwar said he would test his “majority support” in the Dewan Rakyat on 19th Dec. via a vote of confidence.
The vote of confidence came about after the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had questioned the legitimacy of Anwar’s claim of having the support of the majority of the Members of Parliament (MPs).
However, on Sunday, Anwar said the motion of confidence will permit him to lead the country with a clear mandate based on the majority support of the MPs.
He said the matter was clarified during his recent audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as quoted by NST. – Malaysia World News
