Qatar: Alcoholic beverages will not be sold at the World Cup 2022 stadiums in Qatar, Fifa officials said on Friday.

This decision happened only in a last-minute just before the World cup set to start on Sunday.

The consumption of alcohol in the Muslim-majority country host is strictly regulated.

Fifa said in a statement that beers will be available at at Fifa fan zones and other licensed venues.

However, for many fans, the presence of alcohol would not create an enjoyable, they told Reuters.

“A larger number of fans are attending from across the Middle East and South Asia, where alcohol doesn’t play such a large role in the culture,” the source told Reuters.

“The thinking was that, for many fans, the presence of alcohol would not create an enjoyable experience,” the source added.
