KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that it was the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s decision to arrest several aides to the Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar to assist in their graft investigation.
Anwar said, his instruction to the MACC was to act against anyone if there was a basis to do so.
“I have been informed that the aide to the Minister was detained and that was the decision of the MACC,” Anwar said when asked to comment on the issue.
“I was only told about the arrests and do not jump to any conclusion,” Anwar said to the media on his visit to Pulau Pinang today.
Earlier it was reported that Sivakumar’s private secretary was arrested today when she was summoned to the MACC headquarters to have her statement recorded.
The aide was detained to facilitate an investigation into the migrant workers hiring quota approvals.
The woman’s arrest came a day after the graft busters nabbed one of Sivakumar’s aide alongside another individual on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in a separate event on his visit to Pulau Pinang, he said since he came into office he had opened several government files and found several decisions were made in the past year or two filled with fraud and greed by leaders.
“I don’t care either Chinese or Malay or from which party. I have asked the MACC to act professionally with data and facts. If there is a case, the Attorney-General can take prosecution action as a lesson to others,” he said as quoted by NST.
Meanwhile, Anwar said it was important for the federal government and Penang government to ensure political stability and work as a team to face the next state election. – Malaysia World News
