KUCHING: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah urges all Malaysians to reduce the differences among themselves and narrow the gaps between ethnic groups, races and religions.
People should treat the value of unity as a major asset for the nation’s future, His Majesty said.
“As the proverb says ‘charity begins at home’ and as such it is appropriate for me to state here that unity starts from home,” Al Sultan Abdullah said at the national level National Unity Week celebration here Sunday.
His Majesty’s arrival at 11am was greeted by Yang di-Pertua of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Al-Sultan Abdullah was also received by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Meanwhile, at the event Al-Sultan Abdullah had launched “Setia Perpaduan”, a song with the theme of unity that consists of various dialects in Malaysia.
The theme of the Unity Week 2023 is “Unity in Diversity” and it began on 20th May and will end on 28th May. The event will be held in 15 locations nationwide including Bertam Square in Penang, Papar Community Hall in Sabah, Dataran Tasik Kluang, Johor and the Pantai Balok Recreation Centre in Pahang.
The main aim of the Unity Week is to foster togetherness among Malaysians, spread the understanding and appreciation of the diversities in customs and cultures in Malaysia. –Malaysia World News
